History

Founding

The Anglican Diocese was established in 1972 under the Province of the Church of Uganda, carved out of a larger diocese to meet the growing spiritual and administrative needs of the Anglican community in the region.

Growth and Milestones

From 1996 to 2015, the Diocese achieved major milestones such as the creation of new archdeaconries, ordination of locally trained clergy, construction of new church infrastructure, hosting regional events, and forming international partnerships for mission and development

 Early Growth (1982–1995)

During its early years, the Diocese focused on evangelism, church planting, building the cathedral and clergy houses, training clergy and lay leaders, and starting schools and health services to serve the growing population.

Message from bishop

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As we reflect on the journey of our Diocese since its founding in 1982, we give thanks to God for His faithfulness through every season of growth, challenge, and transformation. This Diocese was built on the vision of bringing the gospel closer to the people, and today we continue that mission with renewed passion—empowering our congregations, investing in education and health, and embracing digital ministry for the modern age. I am deeply grateful for the dedication of our clergy, lay leaders, and faithful Christians who serve with humility and love. As we look to the future, let us remain steadfast in prayer, unity, and service, knowing that the Lord who began this good work will bring it to completion. May God bless you all.

Rt. Rev. Samuel Kahuma
Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese
